Amazing Locations! Crystal Gemstone Mountain in Egypt

Crystal Mountain is located between the Baharyia Oasis and the Farafra Oasis, in the Western Desert of Egypt. Despite its name, Crystal Mountain is more of a ridge, rather than a mountain. This ridge includes a unique structure that is entirely made of Calcite Crystal. The ridge is in the process of being eroded by the elements. The crystals themselves are Quartz. The natural crystal arch, which has formed in the ridge is something to see. It is high enough that you can stand under it. Additionally, you'll want to watch for the crystal formations that spring up in the desert all around the mountain.

Crystal Mountain is located between the Bahariya and Farafra areas, and not close to any cities. You cannot expect to walk to the area on foot. It is a stop for safari tours in the Oases of Egypt in the White desert. This is a small natural arch in the rock and the glittering Calcite Crystal walls make it a perfect place to pose for photos. This is what geologists call an exhumed cave, a cave that is complete with stalagmites and stalactites that has been thrust upwards by the earth and with time has lost its roof to erosion and has almost weathered away. The Calcite Crystal developed in paleo caves of khoman chalk.

Crystal Mountain stands on the very edge of the of the White Desert, and only reachable by specialty tour. Most accommodations in the larger cities nearby will arrange a tour to Crystal Mountain for you if you, some restaurants in Farafra also have regular tour busses that head to the mountain. It is about 90 km from Farafra, about 160 km from Bahariya, and 10 km from Agabat, which is the closest settlement. Tour busses leave from surrounding areas, so you should be able to reach the mountain no matter where you are staying.

If you do have the chance to visit this beautiful location it is important to note that you should never break off any of the crystals on the mountain. As the crystals take several years to form, breaking them off is ruining a piece of history. Additionally, you should not choose to pick up the pieces of crystal that scatter throughout the landscape around the ridge. This is because if every tourist took away a piece of the mountain, there would soon be no mountain left to see. So it is asked that you respect the history and beauty of Crystal Mountain Egypt.
